Empirical indicators for Nurses' health condition assessment in the Primary Care

Objective: Identify empirical indicators in the literature, based on the basic human needs of the elderly; and confirm the usefulness of empirical indicators to assess the health condition of the elderly in primary care by nurses. Method: This is an exploratory, descriptive study with a quantitative approach. It was carried out in two stages: 1) Identification of empirical indicators, in the literature, based on the basic human needs of the elderly person; and 2) Validation of the empirical indicators by the nurses participating in the research, calculating the Content Validity Index, considering the indicators that obtained CVI ≥ 0.80 to be valid. Results: 316 empirical indicators were identified in the literature, of these, 255 obtained CVI ≥ 0.80. Of the 255 validated indicators, 205 were for psychobiological needs, 47 for psychosocial needs and 3 for psycho-spiritual needs. Conclusion: The elderly has specific characteristics that differentiate them from other types of individuals. It is believed that the findings of this research will contribute to the implementation of the systematization of nursing care for the elderly, with a view to planning health actions with differentiated and systematized care for this population in primary care.
