Abstract

Plantar pain in the heel is one of the main sources of foot pain, which may or may not cause sensitivity in the sole of the foot, under the heel, and which sometimes extends to the medial arch, inflammation of these structures is called plantar fasciitis. Dry Needling (DN) is a minimally invasive technique that has been used for the treatment of active myofascial trigger point). This study aims to verify the effects of NP as a method of treating plantar fasciitis. This is an integrative review, carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS) and PubMed using the descriptors in English and Portuguese Fascia, Fascite Plantar, Calcaneal Spur Syndrome, Dry Needling, Dry Needling and Myofascial Trigger Point, combined between 2014 and 2020. In the search for Randomized Clinical Trials (RCT) studies for the literature review, 65 articles were found, with 21 selected for full reading and 4 included in the sample. The results suggest that NP was effective in reducing heel pain due to plantar fasciitis. However, more randomized controlled trials of high methodological quality, using standardized procedures across all trials, are needed to provide more reliable evidence in this area.
