Abstract

Introduction: According to the WHO, obesity is a disease in which excess body fat can affect the physical and psychological health of the individual. Thus, the study aims to investigate the sexual behavior of women undergoing gastroplasty, showing whether weight loss influences favorably or not on sexual performance and satisfaction after the procedure. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review in the EMBASE, SCOPUS and PUBMED databases. Through the inclusion criteria, 10 articles were selected, where the results related to the improvement or not of sexual function resulting from gastroplasty in obese women in the last 10 years and aged between 18 and 60 years were sought, answering the following question: How does bariatric surgery influence sexual function in previously obese women? Results: The results showed an improvement in sexual functioning, quality of life and mental health in the articles reviewed. Conclusion: It was noticed the complexity that involves the full extent of the sexual issue such as culture, prejudice, discrimination, taboo and the short time of follow-up of patients, demonstrating the fragility existing in scientific publications regarding an evaluation with a larger sample space, requiring further studies in this regard.
