Evaluation of the level of knowledge of undergraduate dental students about dental avulsion: a literature review

Dental trauma is a public health problem that affects patients' quality of life, affecting function and aesthetics. Urgent care must begin quickly and efficiently at the place to obtain a favorable prognosis. Thus, prior knowledge is essential, but there is a lack of information among the population directly or indirectly involved in the emergency care of dental traumas. Thus, the aim is to review the literature about the level of knowledge about dental avulsion in dentistry students. We used Pubmed and Google Scholar databases for the research between January and February 2021. The following descriptors were applied: trauma dentário (dental trauma), conhecimento (knowledge), estudantes (students), estudantes de Odontologia (dental students), avulsão dental (tooth avulsion, knocked-out tooth), questionário (questionnaire), conhecimento do aluno (student knowledge). The results showed that the student's knowledge was low to moderate. In addition, academics from the last year showed superior knowledge compared to those from the first year. We concluded that academics could not attend to cases of an avulsion, indicating the need for changes in the curricular structures of Dentistry college.
