Prosthetic rehabilitation in a patient with TMD symptoms and missing teeth: a case report

Imperfect prosthetic adaptation and lack of dental elements in patients can cause multifactorial problems leading to TMD symptoms. Prosthetic rehabilitation is essential to be performed when the patient loses dental elements throughout life. Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are alterations that involve the structures of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and related structures, most often presenting adverse symptoms and resulting from a multifactorial etiology. The main way to correctly diagnose this pathology is through the evaluation of the symptoms that are presented by the patient in which one of the main characteristics are the pain in the structures that involve the stomatognathic system and also the difficulty to perform movements, which in turn affect about 5% to 15% of complaints. It is worth mentioning that the highest prevalence of cases of TMJ dysfunction involves young adults aged between 20 and 40 years, most of whom belong to the female gender. This study aimed to report a clinical case of prosthetic rehabilitation in a patient with TMD symptoms and missing teeth.
