Aging and fall prevention: overview of the nursing team of a Transition Hospital

Abstract

Objective: to describe a view of the nursing staff of a transitional hospital on the prevention and occurrence of falls in the elderly. Method: This is a qualitative, descriptive study carried out in a transitional hospital located in the city of Niterói - RJ, Brazil. Thirty-three nursing professionals participated in the study, of which there are seven nurses and twenty-six nursing technicians through semi-structured audio taped interviews that, after transcription, were submitted to Bardin's thematic analysis. Results: after analysis, three categories emerged: the experience of professionals with falls; the specific knowledge of professionals about falls and the performance of professionals after the falls incident. Conclusion: It was identified that the professionals know preventive measures for falls but expressed the need for educational actions on protocols and scales for assessing the risk of falls in the elderly.

Emanoele Amaral Machado, Universidade Federal Fluminense

Graduated in Nursing from Centro Universitário Plínio Leite (2011). Specialist in high complexity UGF (2012) and Gerontological Nursing UFF (2019). Master student PACCS. He is currently a member of the interdisciplinary research group teaching and technology and innovation in health (GIPETIS / cnpq) at Universidade Federal Fluminense. She worked as a nurse at Hospital Placi extensive care. They have experience in the field of Nursing, with an emphasis on Gerontology, working mainly on the following topics: patient safety and patient-centered care. Consultant in the area of ​​patient safety and currently an audit nurse at Orizon.

Nurse. Graduated from Universidade Federal Fluminense. Master and Doctorate in Nursing from UFRJ; Post Doctorate by UERJ, Residency in Medical Surgical Nursing at UERJ, Specialist in Education in the Health Area by NUTES / UFRJ. Maria de Nazaré de Souza Ribeiro, Universidade Federal do Amazonas

She is currently an emergency nurse at the Health Superintendence of Amazonas; Adjunct Professor at the School of Health Sciences at the State University of Amazonas; Vice coordinator and Professor of the Professional Master's Program in Public Health Nursing; Coordinator of the Specialization Course in Cardiovascular Nursing.
