La investigación en salud y el uso de la estrategia Public and Patient Involvement (PPI): Revisión de literatura

Resumen

El objetivo de esta revisión fue analizar la producción científica sobre el uso de la estrategia de Participación de Pacientes y Público (Patient and Public Involvement, PPI) en investigaciones en salud, considerando su relevancia ética y su potencial para mejorar la calidad de los estudios. Se realizó una revisión documental basada en fuentes secundarias provenientes de artículos de terceros, en un estudio cualitativo con poca sistematización, caracterizado como una revisión narrativa de la literatura. La búsqueda se llevó a cabo en diciembre de 2023 en las bases PubMed/MEDLINE, SciELO, Google Scholar y en páginas institucionales, utilizando descriptores en portugués e inglés relacionados con la PPP y la investigación en salud. Se incluyeron artículos originales, revisiones, protocolos, directrices y documentos técnicos, sin restricción de fecha de publicación, y se excluyeron editoriales de opinión y textos no fundamentados. La selección resultó en 55 documentos, de los cuales 40 fueron artículos científicos y 15 informes o directrices institucionales. Entre los hallazgos, predominaron revisiones sistemáticas y de alcance que mapearon prácticas de participación en diferentes contextos internacionales, además de estudios que demostraron impactos positivos de la PPP en los procesos de reclutamiento, retención y difusión de resultados. Se identificó una amplia disponibilidad de guías y herramientas de implementación en países como Reino Unido, Estados Unidos y Canadá, pero solo se encontró una experiencia nacional, lo que pone de manifiesto la escasez de prácticas consolidadas en Brasil. En conclusión, la PPP tiene el potencial de ampliar la relevancia social y ética de la investigación en salud en el país, contribuyendo a una mayor aplicabilidad de los resultados y al fortalecimiento de la participación ciudadana en la producción de conocimiento científico.
