Covid-19 and its implications on the mental health of nursing professionals

COVID-19 resulted in drastic behavioral and psychic changes in how we act and think, as it resulted in a very large emotional burden around the world due to the great social distance caused and the death of millions of people through the pandemic. The objective of this article is to analyze the impacts generated by the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of nursing professionals. The methodology used was the integrative literature review. Nine articles published in the years 2019 to 2022 in the following electronic databases were selected: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), in the International Literature in Health Sciences (MEDLINE), as well as the use of the Scientific Electronic Platform Library Online (SCIELO) and database in Nursing (BDENF). The study showed that the main implications of Covid-19 are: severe anxiety syndrome, Burnout syndrome, depression, fear, anguish, in addition to the fact that covid-19 still corroborated with the increase in numerous social problems such as work overload, inadequate working conditions, fake news and political problems directly affecting nursing professionals. It is concluded that the pandemic highlighted the need for a special look at nursing professionals, as it had serious consequences on the current work process of this professional category, involving physical, emotional and psychological aspects that still persist in the post-pandemic.
