Ovarian tumor in children and adolescents: case analysis in a reference center in pediatric oncology

Ovarian tumors are rare in childhood, but they should be considered in female patients aged 0-19 years with pain in the hypogastric region and an abdominal mass. These can be malignant or benign, with malignant accounting for about 1% of all pediatric cancers. The symptoms are very similar between the two types, requiring investigation of each case to establish a correct diagnosis. This is done through physical examination associated with imaging and laboratory tests, with treatment being individualized. This study aims to evaluate the ovarian tumors that affect the pediatric age group and adolescence, their clinical manifestations and pathological characteristics, in addition to observing the proposed treatment for each case and the evolution of the disease in a reference center in pediatric oncology in the west of the country. Paraná. For this, electronic medical records of the Hospital do Câncer de Cascavel were analyzed, from January 2000 to June 2021. Through this it can be observed that the ovarian tumor needs attention to clinical manifestations, requiring investigation for correct diagnosis through of imaging tests and hormonal markers, as an early diagnosis is essential for a better prognosis, increasing the survival and quality of life of affected patients.
