Tratamiento conservador de la piometra abierta con aglepristone en una perra reproductora premiada de la raza Bulldog Francés

Resumen

La piometra es la enfermedad infecciosa más común del aparato reproductor de las perras. Se considera una afección de grave complejidad y, cuando no se diagnostica y trata a tiempo, puede llevar a la mujer a la muerte. Este artículo pretende informar de la eficacia del tratamiento conservador en una perra diagnosticada de piometra y su posterior reanudación de la capacidad reproductora. Se trata de una hembra de Bulldog Francés de 12 meses que presentaba apatía, deshidratación, hipertermia, hiporexia, dolor abdominal y secreción vulvar mucopurulenta. El diagnóstico presuntivo de piometra se basó en la extravasación de contenido purulento a través de la vulva, confirmándose mediante ecografía. El tratamiento instituido se basó en la administración de aglepristone (Alizin® Virbac) y asociaciones con antibioticoterapia, antiflogístico, analgésico y protector gástrico, mostrándose eficaz para la cura clínica del animal. Al cabo de tres años, el animal fue sometido a inseminación artificial y se confirmó la preñez, con gestación sin incidentes y nacimiento de dos cachorros. El tratamiento en cuestión se consideró eficaz porque promovió la curación clínica del animal, la involución completa del útero y el retorno de la viabilidad reproductiva.
