Plantas medicinales en el envejecimiento cutáneo: una revisión integrativa

Resumen

El envejecimiento ocurre debido a una declinación funcional celular relacionada con factores intrínsecos y extrínsecos, provocando cambios en el material genético, aumento de especies reactivas de oxígeno, destrucción de fibras elásticas y colágeno, provocando el fenotipo característico de envejecimiento en términos dermatológicos. Así, la fitoterapia consiste en utilizar las plantas con fines medicinales, siendo estudiadas y utilizadas para paliar los efectos del envejecimiento, reduciendo este fenotipo y alteraciones moleculares. Por lo tanto, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo investigar la literatura científica sobre la relación entre las plantas medicinales y el envejecimiento. Se utilizaron los descriptores “Envejecimiento de la Piel”, “Plantas Medicinales y “Fitoterapia” en la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud, utilizando MEDLINE y LILACS. 12 artículos conformaron la muestra final y arrojaron resultados beneficiosos sobre el uso de plantas medicinales durante el proceso de envejecimiento, a través de estudios in vitro e in vivo se comprobó que ciertas plantas pueden mejorar el aspecto de la piel, reducir el estrés oxidativo, mejorar la disposición proteínas de la matriz, entre otros. Finalmente, se concluye que la aplicación de plantas medicinales puede ser una herramienta importante para combatir el estrés oxidativo, reduciendo el daño en el ADN y las reacciones bioquímicas que conducen al envejecimiento acelerado de la piel.
