La importancia de los carbohidratos para el rendimiento deportivo en atletas corredores: una revisión integrativa de la literatura

Resumen

Objetivo: Discutir la relevancia de los carbohidratos para los corredores, enfatizando las estrategias que optimizan el rendimiento deportivo. Metodología: se trata de una revisión integrativa de la literatura, realizada a partir de la búsqueda de publicaciones científicas indexadas en las bases de datos: MEDLINE vía PubMed, Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Dynamed, Dialnet, así como las plataformas de búsqueda UniCEUB, a partir de artículos científicos, libros y revistas científicas en portugués e inglés. Se utilizaron los siguientes descriptores: carbohidratos, corredores, rendimiento deportivo, deporte, nutrición, resistencia y suplementación. Al final de las búsquedas, 10 publicaciones cumplieron con los criterios de elegibilidad y fueron seleccionadas para componer el estudio. Resultados: a la vista de los hallazgos extraídos de los estudios seleccionados, se percibió que la ingesta de carbohidratos es de fundamental importancia para el rendimiento de los atletas corredores. La incorporación de múltiples carbohidratos, como glucosa y fructosa, en la misma mezcla puede producir resultados notables. Además, se ha demostrado que los enjuagues bucales que contienen carbohidratos parecen ser un método inteligente para que los corredores lo usen para mejorar el rendimiento físico en la carrera y evitar las molestias de los problemas gastrointestinales. Conclusión: El presente estudio sensibilizó a los corredores sobre la necesidad de una adecuada ingesta de carbohidratos durante los entrenamientos y competencias, así como estrategias nutricionales para obtener un buen rendimiento, un mejor rendimiento en los entrenamientos y, consecuentemente, un aumento en la calidad de vida.
