Implicaciones para el uso de ozono (O3) en el tratamiento adyuvante de COVID-19

Resumen

Recientemente, la enfermedad por coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) ha causado una gran pandemia mundial y plantea graves amenazas para la salud pública. En consecuencia, existe una demanda mundial para encontrar nuevos tratamientos para controlar la nueva pandemia de coronavirus. Ante la ausencia de antivirales y vacunas para COVID-19, existe una necesidad urgente de buscar alternativas terapéuticas capaces de mitigar el daño causado por el virus SARS-CoV-2. Por lo tanto, este estudio busca, a través de una revisión narrativa, proporcionar una comprensión de la evidencia actual disponible sobre la importancia de la ozonoterapia (ozonoterapia) y su posible aplicabilidad en el tratamiento de COVID-19. Se utilizaron las bases de datos bibliográficas MEDLINE/PubMed, SciELO y LILACS. La evidencia muestra que el ozono (O3) es capaz de inactivar virus mediante la oxidación directa de sus componentes estructurales y bloquear la replicación viral. Aún así, debido a su acción moduladora del proceso inflamatorio, el aumento del sistema inmunológico y antioxidante celular y humoral, puede atenuar enfermedades pulmonares y trastornos respiratorios similares a las complicaciones del nuevo brote de coronavirus. Así, la evidencia encontrada en este estudio indica que el ozono podría proponerse como soporte de la farmacoterapia en el tratamiento contra infecciones virales en general y particularmente contra el nuevo coronavirus (SARS-CoV2), dentro de un enfoque de medicina integradora, justificado. debido a su mecanismo de acción y la patogenia del COVID-19. Sin embargo, se necesitan ensayos clínicos controlados y aleatorizados para respaldar su eficacia en la prevención, el control y el tratamiento del nuevo brote de coronavirus.
