Impacto da sarcopenia no idoso e a importância da educação alimentar e nutricional

Resumo

Introdução: A sarcopenia é uma condição médica caracterizada pela perda progressiva de massa muscular e força, quando associada ao envelhecimento é relacionada ao maior risco de quedas, hospitalização e mortalidade. Objetivo: O objetivo geral do presente artigo é: analisar os impactos da educação alimentar e nutricional na prevenção e tratamento da sarcopenia nos idosos. Metodologia: O presente estudo foi realizado através de revisão de literatura. Foram utilizados documentos científicos, selecionando os trabalhos publicados nos últimos 10 anos (entre 2015 e 2025) nos idiomas português e inglês. As bases de dados foram PubMed e SciELO. Discussão: Os estudos apontam que a educação alimentar e nutricional, quando associada a uma ingestão proteica adequada (≥1,2 g/kg/dia) torna-se uma eficaz ferramenta na prevenção e no tratamento da sarcopenia, dados que reforçam sua importância como intervenção prioritária e essencial devido ao cenário de envelhecimento populacional. Além disso, a incorporação da EAN nas políticas públicas e nos serviços de saúde pode ter papel fundamental na promoção do envelhecimento saudável. Considerações finais: A sarcopenia, reconhecida pela CID-10 (M62.84), configura-se como um dos maiores desafios de saúde pública, dada sua repercussão sobre a autonomia e a qualidade de vida dos idosos. O envelhecimento populacional, aliado a hábitos alimentares inadequados, amplia a relevância de estratégias preventivas. Nesse contexto, a Educação Alimentar e Nutricional (EAN) surge como ferramenta fundamental, capaz de promover escolhas alimentares saudáveis, preservar a funcionalidade e reduzir impactos psicossociais.
